What a reception host helps with
- A personalised welcome that sets the tone.
- Coordination with your wedding planner and other vendors.
- Introductions and transitions between reception moments.
- Speeches, toasts and activities.
- Guidance through moments such as cake cutting and the first dance.
- Interactive elements discussed with you to suit the celebration.
These are the roles described in the existing service guide. Agree the hours, run sheet and responsibilities before booking; no fixed duration or unlimited coverage is promised here.
An evening that sounds like you
Tell me how you want the reception to feel: relaxed, lively, sentimental or a mix. Who is speaking? Are there traditions to include? Is there anything you would rather skip? Those details help shape the hosting, instead of asking your day to follow someone else’s formula.
A possible flow, not a fixed package timetable
- Welcome: introduce the celebration and help guests settle in.
- Speeches: introduce speakers and manage transitions.
- Key moments: guide guests through the agreed cake cutting, first dance or activities.
This sequence is illustrative only. It is not a timed run sheet or a promise that every event follows this order. Your actual plan needs to be agreed with Bec, your venue and other suppliers.
Already have your celebrant?
Standalone MC and reception hosting is also a published service. Tell Bec about your reception and what you need, rather than assuming a ceremony booking is required. Availability, preparation, hours and equipment responsibilities need confirmation.
Clear roles make for a better day
Reception hosting is not the same as being your DJ, caterer, wedding planner or venue coordinator. Ask who supplies the sound equipment, who cues music and how changes to the run sheet will be handled. Bec works with the other people involved; this page does not promise their services as part of hers.
Can our friends and family still take part?
Share the people and moments you want involved. Having a host can provide structure around their contributions; the exact format is something to agree together.
What should we bring to the first conversation?
Your date, ceremony and reception locations, likely guest count, reception timing and an outline of the moments you want included. Ask about arrival, finish time, overtime, travel and equipment before comparing quotes.
Choosing the ceremony as well?
Explore the Bespoke Package or compare ceremony options. Then we can talk about how the ceremony and reception fit together.
